This program is put together to showcase the capacity of the role of the composer-performer. We are very grateful to have one of the most in-demand musician in this field, Garth Knox. He would be presenting four of his works each exploring styles and ideas within contemporary music. Among them is a work written for the viola d’amore. Juxtoposing original composition, Garth would also be playing the work of Kaija Sariaaho and Luciano Berio. Both works calls upon an interesting mix between an accompanist and an improvisor. In a similar vein, John Partitucci’s composition gives free reigns to the performer to take chances in further developing it’s tone, motifs and structure. This concert features hand percussionist Eugene Toh and production designer and visual /sound artist Mervin Wong AKA Theemptybluesky .
