About the event

This December, Temenggong 18/20 presents 𝘈 𝘓𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 𝘕𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘔𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘤 featuring Glimmer featuring music and artworks of Singaporean artist / performer Christoven Tan.

𝘎𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘳 is a performance experience in the form of a recital and exhibition that investigates the capacity of listeners to adapt and aims to expand the definition of listening. The artworks featured is a series called 𝘚𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘴, 𝘎𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘔𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘴 by Christoven as a response to Hungarian composer and pianist Gyorgy Kurtag's work of same name. The response came after being inspired by the relationships of people and the way people connect today. The music performed is an extension of the artwork bridging materiality to immateriality.

EXHIBITION 𝘚𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘴, 𝘎𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘔𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘴 is about the relationships of people and the way people make connections. The series consists of 70 artworks through the use of graphical notation and material engagement with found objects. Each of the artworks are sized to resemble name cards. The inscribed notations could be a message or something to be shared. The intention of 𝘚𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘴, 𝘎𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘔𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘴 is to create a sense of preservation of a moment or an encounter as one would when receiving a dedication. 𝘚𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘴, 𝘎𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘔𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘴 was conceived as a reimagination of another work with the same name of Hungarian composer, Gyorgy Kurtag, who is considered to be amongst the most important today. Kurtag's work materialised in the form of a set of small miniature pieces written as musical 'letters'.

Each of the 70 artworks has original music embedded in them accessible through a QR-code during the exhibition.
